The Daniel Robinson & Sons Ltd Braintree and District Petanque League held their Doubles tournament at Earls Colne Leisure Centre.

There were no real surprises in the morning group stages, with the favourites progressing into the main competition.

There was a good performance by Rayne Swans's Trevor Turner and Beryl Gibson who defeated Colne Angel's Dave Mark and Wendy Ridehalgh 13-11 in their last game of the morning.

However, their joy did not last, as they were then beaten 13-0 in the KO stages by Rayne Swan's Adam Buxton and Lorne Gibson.

Last year's winners Buxton and Gibson continued their good performance with a 13-10 semi-final win over Frank Britt and Lloyd Herman from Chequers PC, Great Tey.

They were to meet Simon Bird and Chris Parr (Colne Angel) in the final, who had a comprehensive 13-4 semi-final win over Simon Doble and Bill Eve (Chequers).

Holders Buxton and Gibson could not repeat their win of 2007 and lost out to Bird and Parr 13-7, in an excellent final.

The Plate competition final was contested by two father and son pairings.

Dave and Jack Pearse (Feering Bell) beat Trevor and Daniel Blows from Onley PC, Stisted 13-10.
