Braintree Town shot-stopper Nicky Morgan believes last season's Blue Square South play-off final heartache is driving the club's players on.

Morgan was part of the Iron team that lost 1-0 to Salisbury City at Broadhall Way, Stevenage, missing out on a place in the Conference National.

However, they still have a chance of making amends for that disappointment, with three matches to go.

And ahead of his side's vital trip to play Thurrock on Saturday, the former Southend United custodian is eager to go one better this time around.

Morgan said: "We're desperate to do well after what happened last season.

"It was a painful defeat, especially when you see Salisbury City holding their own in the Conference.

"We were so close last year but we have the experience of last season under our belts and a bit of experience in the play-off atmosphere, which has made us even hungrier to do well."

Braintree's goal-less draw against Newport last Saturday hindered their hopes of reaching the play-offs and victories for play-off rivals Bath City and Newport County last night did not help their cause.

However, Morgan feels their togetherness can help them realise their dream of promotion.

"We have a very good team spirit and the lads have been together for a while now," said Morgan.

"The 0-0 draw against Newport didn't help us but we have to have confidence going into our last three games."
