Loanee set for a start as Braintree finally get to face Lincoln

Braintree Town manager Alan Devonshire says he expects his new loan signing to make a start when his team return to Blue Square Bet Premier action at Lincoln City tonight.

Having seen their last two scheduled games postponed due to the recent chilly weather, Braintree are keen to get back to playing and hopes are high that the Sincil Bank pitch will be fit for purpose once more.

Devonshire said he had spoken to Imps manager David Holdsworth, who had told him that he expected the game to go ahead and Iron chairman Lee Harding said he thought Lincoln would want it to be played from a financial perspective.

Harding said: “Speaking to Lincoln, they are desperate to have the game go ahead.

“They were very disappointed not to get the game on two weekends ago as you always get a bigger crowd on a Saturday and that can mean as many as 500 people difference coming through the turnstiles.

“When you multiply that by £15 per person, you understand that you are talking about thousands of pounds that it can cost a club.

“But they seem happy enough that the pitch is in a good condition and I don’t think we are expecting any more frost ahead of the game.”

Watford loanee striker Britt Assombalonga is expected to make his Iron debut alongside Sean Marks against the Imps, having completed his registration at Braintree yesterday morning.
