BRAINTREE and District Athletics Club had a great turnout at the inaugural Witham May Day 10 race.
In scorching temperatures, 13 Braintree athletes braved the tough conditions and in a field of 295 runners, under-20 athlete Conor Culham was 16th overall and first in his age group in one hour six minutes 51 seconds.
Also putting in impressive personal bests on the day were Philip Wood, who knocked five minutes off his previous best, and Lynne Culham, who took four minutes off her best ten-mile time.
RESULTS: Conor Culham 1:06:51, Myles Coulson 1:12:55, John Holland 1:20:21, Adam Sewell 1:26:06, Marco Firman 1:27:48, Philip Wood 1:27:59, Michelle Phillips 1:33:20, Helen Lambert 1:33:21, Steve Hankinson 1:37:17, Raoul Grantham 1:40, Christine Edgoose 1:49:42, Mark Thomas 1:56:32, Lynne Culham 2:13:58.
Earlier in the Bank Holiday weekend, three Braintree athletes competed at High Easter.
First across the line for Braintree, in his debut 10k for the club, was under-17 runner Innes Fullerton, who finished in 37:51 in tenth place overall.
Fullerton was closely followed by another Braintree debutant under-17, James Chalklen, who was 24th in a time of 42:08.
In the first of two endurance races over the weekend, Adam Sewell finished 65th in 47:23.
