WITHAM Town manager Adam Flint knows what he needs to strengthen his squad further over the summer after concluding a successful campaign in Bostik League division north.

Despite the disappointment of a final day 2-0 defeat by Tilbury last weekend, Witham have finished the campaign strongly and secured 11th spot in the table as they surpassed the 60-point target that Flint had set to make sure they bettered what they had achieved the year before.

Flint, assistant manager James Robinson and coach Curtis Whyte have brought through a number of young players into the first-team ranks this year and the boss saw this as an additional success, but he is already looking at what he needs to build further.

And it is players towards the other end of the age scale that he feels will help next year as he looks for more experienced heads to slot in among the up and coming talents at the club.

Flint said: "I would be happy for the squad that I've finished the season with to stay on next year, but we will probably lose players and that's natural after a good season.

"We know clubs have been looking at us because of the number of seven-day approaches we have had this year.

"I appreciate the loyalty that players have shown in staying with us when there have been approaches, but I'm realistic to know that some will move on over the summer.

"However, we had that last year with the likes of Ryan Charles moving on.

"We lost more than 60 goals this year from people from last year's team leaving - people like Nathan (Koranteng), Tim (Monsheju) and Ozzie (Usman Adeniji) - but we've brought in young players and they have done a great job.

"What I do think we need now, though, and what I will be prioritising over the summer is getting more experienced players in.

"You have to have experience in your team and while we do have some older people like John Watson and Lewis Payne, we could do with a few more.

"I will be sitting down in the coming weeks with players and seeing if they want to be here and I will make plans from that.

"I'm sure the younger players will want to stay on as they are part of the club and I think people like Chi (Osadebe) have become better players from what they have done this season.

"I think people like Jack Kemsley, Liam Whipps, Chi and Kofi Gyebi will be big parts of our club.

"It's just a case of us building on that by getting a few more people in with experience, but I'd love to hold on to the likes of the Elliot Rontos, the Pat Aherns, the Bobby Masons and the Correy Davidsons."

Flint said the highlights of the season had been the way Witham finished strongly to ensure they finished with more points than they had last year and he was also pleased that people outside the club had started to acknowledge the work being done at the Village Glass Stadium.

He added: "I think people have started to notice that we have done a good job.

"There are young managers out there who have done well this year at other clubs in our league and it's nice to get spoken about.

"I'm proud of what we have done at Witham this year.

"We didn't speak about it with the players, but James (Robinson), Curtis (Whyte) and myself had a points target that we wanted to get past to better last year.

"That was 60 points and the fact that we have managed that as well as bringing through a lot of young boys into the first team is something we should be proud of.

"They have been two things that we have achieved, but I was also pleased with how we turned things around after the poor run we had in the middle part of the season.

"We didn't win for 12 games and I was thinking 'how on earth do we get back from this?'

"It was a real test but we turned it around and came through it in the right way.

"We ended that run by beating (eventual champions) Hornchurch, but there were other highlights along the way like the FA Cup win at Canvey.

"There have been lots of ups and downs, but the support we have had from the club has been superb.

"There are a lot of people volunteering behind the scenes and while it may not always be seen, we are very thankful for it."
