WITH it feeling more like winter than spring, anglers were well wrapped up for both Braintree Club matches at Notley.

The warmer days that have been seen, though, have allowed the water to warm up a little and a few more fish are feeding.

The Friday match saw Bernard Huxter net a carp a few minutes from the end of the match and, together with an earlier one of 9-3-0, he had the top weight of 15-2-0.

Sections (excluding winner): 1 J Loosley 9-8-0, 2 B Reed 8-13-0.

Sunday's match was at least dry and, although cold, more fish were caught.

Pete Thompson had a busy day, hooking carp and F1s on his roach rig and he managed to land four carp and eight F1s along with silvers to give him a winning total of 44-4-0, all taken with a single red maggot on the hook.

He would have been the first angler to break the 50lbs barrier in a match, but the carp he needed slipped the hook at the net.

Second on the day was Kevin Howell, who also had four carp with his F1s to finish with 30-13-0.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Braintree and Bocking AS membership cards will not be available from May 1. Current members should just carry on using the water at Notley on the same lock number and new cards will be available as soon as possible.

On Sunday, the club match is on Hobbs Croft at the Fennes and the following week is the J Doyle Rod and Reel Trophy on Hill and Black.

The prize presentation is on Wednesday, May 16, at the Liberal Club in Braintree.
