WITHAM Town manager Adam Flint feels new signing Jake Gordon can add another dimension to his attacking options in the final part of the Bostik League division north season.

Flint brought Gordon in from Aveley ahead of Witham’s game against Heybridge Swifts last Friday and the striker came off the bench to make a positive impact.

The Town boss said Gordon was a player who he had admired for a while and he was pleased to bring him in.

“Jake Gordon is someone who has always caught my eye,” said Flint. “He got lots of goals for Great Wakering and he became available so we were pleased to get him.”

Witham are due to head to AFC Sudbury on Saturday where they are hoping the Suffolk club’s artificial pitch can help them beat the winter weather.

The Siberian chill had the last laugh in midweek, though, as it denied Witham a quickfire return meeting against Heybridge when a frozen and snow-covered Scraley Road pitch saw the fixture postponed.

It has already been rearranged but, due to Swifts’ fixture backlog and lack of available Tuesdays, will have to be played on Thursday, March 15.

If it is anything like the first meeting, though, it will be an exciting encounter.

Flint now hopes their late goal can be a springboard to future success for his team.

The Witham boss said: “We wanted them to work hard after the disappointing game at Grays in our previous outing and they certainly did that “How many times have teams done that to us with late goals?

“We know what it feels like – it really hurts you.

“I’m sure they were hurting afterwards.

“Had we scored five minutes before, I think we would have gone on and nicked it.

“I think it gives us confidence now.

“I know it was a draw but I think it can be like the Hornchurch win that we had.

“I hope it will.”
