WITHAM Town manager Adam Flint doesn’t feel that his team’s break in Bostik League division north action has come at a bad time for them.

Thanks to this weekend’s scheduled league opponents - Heybridge Swifts - being involved in the FA Trophy, Witham are without a game and will have to wait until December 2 to return to action when Grays Athletic visit the Village Glass Stadium.

They have headed into the hiatus in good shape, though, after last weekend’s 3-2 win against Cheshunt took their recent points haul to 13 from their last five games and saw them complete November unbeaten.

It is form that Flint will want them to continue when games resume, but for now, he is content that his players will have a chance to catch their breath ahead of a busy December.

“I don’t think it’s come at a bad time for us,” said Flint.

“A few of them could do with a bit of time off.

“We didn’t train on Tuesday and we took the opportunity to watch a few games.

“Myself, (assistant manager) James (Robinson) and (coach) Curtis (Whyte) all like to get out and watch games to see opponents and other players and this is a chance for us to do that.

“So we’ve told the players that they’ll have a couple of days off, although some of them weren’t happy about that, which is unusual.

“There will be a friendly organised next Tuesday on the 28th and that will give us a chance to bring some boys in to have a look at them.

“Quite a few of the first team will be involved and we’ll bring in some of the under-23s as well because there are some really good boys in there who we have to have a look at.

“There are some strong ones who stepped up from the under-18s last year and we want to see what they have.”

Witham head into their break on the back of a strong result against Cheshunt and while it wasn’t a game where his team were at their peak, Flint was happy to take a bit of luck that helped them get the three points.

He added: “At the end of the day, we won, but it should have been much more comfortable – we should have won 3-1.

“You can’t give a guy like (Cheshunt striker) Jason Hallett a chance like we did late on, but we’ll take the win.

“I was pleased how we hit back with our first goal after falling behind, but I don’t think it would have come off for us a couple of weeks ago.

“The luck just wasn’t going for us then.

“It would have bobbled wide, but we got the little bit of luck go our way this time.

“To be fair to Jeff (Gyamfi), though, he had to be in there to get it.

“The players had the desire to get back and it was a good response.

“They were two good finishes by Cheshunt for their goals, but I was glad with the points.”

Flint was pleased to take a win into the two-week break and it was also a result that allowed them to tick off one of the targets that they set for players through the season.

“We have little challenges for the players through the season and one of those is to go a month without being defeated,” said Flint.

“We’ve done that now as that’s November done for us.

“That’s a first for us and can move on to December.”
