WITHAM Town boss Adam Flint is confident his side will end their winless run soon - and hopes back-to-back cup games could act as a springboard for league success.

The Village Glass Stadium side are without a victory since September 9 after sliding to a 3-2 defeat at home to Hertford Town on Tuesday night.

They now switch their attention to Saturday's FA Trophy first-round tie at Potters Bar Town, with an Essex Senior Cup tie at home to Dagenham and Redbridge to come on Tuesday.

And Flint hopes success in the cup competitions could spark an upturn in fortune when it comes to pocketing much-needed league points.

"We're not getting any luck at the moment and that's the way it goes when you're down there in the table," he said.

"We played really well against Hertford, even with ten men (Tyler Corlett was dismissed in the 51st minute).

"In my opinion, even a draw wouldn't have been a fair reflection of the game.

"We deserved to win and were the better team, so to finish empty-handed was tough to take.

"The boys were gutted afterwards but that showed a real sense of togetherness.

"We'll make sure they keep their heads up and keep working hard, because things can change so quickly in this league.

"If could get a couple of wins, and build a bit of momentum, we'd be up there in mid-table.

"It's not like we're being hammered and losing heavily every week.

"All our games are close and competitive.

"It's fine margins but if we stick together I'm very confident we'll turn things round."

Max Bradford and Sam Ashford scored Witham's goals against Hertford.

Now Flint hopes a couple of cup games will give his side the chance to end their win-less run.

First up they head to Potters Bar in the Trophy on Saturday - ironically the same team they drew 1-1 with in the league last weekend.

"We know we can beat them and it's an important game for the club, because of the financial rewards," added Flint.

"Hopefully some success in these cup games will give us a bit of a springboard for our next league game, against Hornchurch."

The Witham boss hopes to have at least one new face in his squad by the weekend, with one potential target having been on the sidelines watching Tuesday's game.

"We're a young side and I'm working hard to add a couple of new faces," said Flint.

"It's not easy, because of our position in the league and also because there are teams below us in the pyramid paying triple what we can offer.

"But there are a couple of boys I'm trying to get involved.

"They're young, hungry and I'm confident they could do a job for us.

"Hopefully at least one will be on board by the weekend."

Lance Akins should be fit to play in Saturday's Trophy game but Liam Whipps is suspended, having been sent off at Potters Bar.
