WHILE the weather was not as bad as forecast for the Sid Roberts Memorial match on the Fennes, it did appear to be to the liking of the carp, especially on Hobbs Croft, which provided four of the top five places.

Leading the way, on peg 65, was Glen Cousens, who landed seven carp along with some bream to just head a close finish with 63-0-0.

Dean Field (Bills Tackle) was top on Ash Grounds, with carp and bream weighing 61-14-0 for second place.

The next three were on Hobbs Croft where Trevor Harden landed five carp late in the match for 60-2-0 and third spot, while Justin Smith just beat his Colne club-mate Neil Hood with 47-0-0 to 46-12-0.

Top silver fish weight was the 27-0-0 of Bill Walker (Bills Tackle).

Sections (excluding top five): Ash Grounds: A G. Spong (BBAS) 27-0-0, B R. Thurlow 30-0-0, C C. Smith (Colne AC) 22-8-0, D C. Richardson 12-8-8, E T. Sage (Colne AC) 32-0-0. Hobbs Croft: F M. Gould (BBAS), G P. Thompson (Team Fennes Fisheries) 15-0-0, H M. Banks (Bills Tackle) 42-8-0.

The Braintree Club's Friday Sweep at Notley saw the same two anglers in the frame for the win as in the previous week's match.

The fishing improved, with more F1s caught, and Bernard Huxter had odd fish during the match on feeder and pole, while Jim Loosley again had a carp late in the match.

But this time it was not enough and Huxter ran out the winner with 27-0-0 to 24-2-0.
