WITHAM Town’s assistant manager James Robinson feels it won’t take much for their team’s fortunes to switch in their favour and he hopes a positive display at Romford on Saturday will kick-start their Bostik League division north campaign.

Robinson admitted that last weekend’s 3-2 defeat at Ware was frustrating as their old habit of conceding late goals reared up again and a 90th minute strike for the hosts left Town pointless.

However, the assistant boss feels that it is not in defence where they really need to step things up.

He said that the team haven’t “clicked” yet as an attacking unit and wants to see better decision making as they get a more settled look to their forward unit with players becoming available again.

Robinson said: “We haven’t really clicked yet going forward as an attacking unit.

“We have drawn games and lost a couple by the odd goal and I think it has been our decision making in those games that has been the difference. We haven’t been making the right decisions in the final third and had we been better in that respect, we would have won a lot more than we have so far.

“There were better signs on Saturday, though.

“It’s not been down to work rate, it has just bee the decision making, which is something that it’s very hard to coach into players.

“You try to make them picture situations but its up to them on the pitch.

“I think it’s a temporary thing, though, and I just feel that someone is going to get a hiding soon as we have the capability.

“We just need to get a run of two or three games going and we’ll be fine.

“The wins we have had have been really good ones - in the FA Cup at Canvey, against Brentwood with nine men and then grinding it out against Barking - we have done the things that we did not do last year.

“It’s just that the luck hasn’t been going for us.

“We’ve also had a couple of injuries so we haven’t had a settled forward line, but we now have people back.

“Sam Ashford started on Saturday and had no reaction with his hip injury, Shami Pedulu has come in and has been doing really well, Tim Monsheju did well and we have Usman Adeniji and Ryan Imbert available now. So we have good options after having players missing.

“We’ve had to rotate so far, but it’s now a case of players getting the shirt and keeping it.”

However, it is at the other end of the pitch where selection headaches may be found for Witham at Romford, though.

Robinson added: “Rather than problems up front, we may have availability issues at the back as we have three centre-backs who could be out.

“Lance Akins is suspended, Tyler Corlett has work commitments and Damien Green is away so we could be short at the back.

“It’s a shame as we have been defending well.

“Some of the goals we conceded last year were not good, but we have cut that out and it’s more going forward where it hasn’t clicked yet.”
