SPRINGFIELD Striders won both the male and female team prizes as 328 competitors ran in sweltering conditions in Grange Farm and Dunmow Runners’ annual Felsted ten-kilometre road race.
The race was won by Ramadan Osman of Colchester Harriers in 33 minutes 46 seconds, while second and third, representing Springfield Striders, were James Smith in 35m 3s and Samuel Cornforth in 35m 30s.
For the ladies, Megan Evans of Chelmsford Athletic Club was fastest in 39m 21s, with Marianne Naylor of Saffron Striders second in 40m 1s and Springfield Striders’ Jackie Stretton third in 40m 20s.
Russell Davies of Springfield Striders won the M40 age category in 36m 23s, Colin Ridley of Colchester Harriers (36m 9s) was the first M50, with Jonathan Haynes (38m 33s) and Ian McClymont (52m 19s), representing Bishop’s Stortford Running Club, fastest in the M60 and M70 categories.
The female age category winners were: F35 Marianne Naylor, F45 Carinne Jay of Harlow Running Club (44m 27s), F55 Shirley Ball of Bishop’s Stortford Running Club (52m 50s) and F65 Sheila Purkiss in 1h 13m 54s.
