CAPTAIN Jake Wakelin wants to see a collective team performance to get his Witham Cricket Club side back on track when they return to Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship division one action at Worlington today.

The inconsistency that has plagued Witham so far this season continued as they fell to a "disappointing" seven-wicket defeat by Mistley last weekend.

It was their second loss in a row and Wakelin admits that not enough of his team are firing together in games at the moment, so he wants to see some stronger individual performances to earn the collective rewards.

He said: "It was a disappointing game (at Mistley) to be honest and it wasn't really a good enough performance.

"We didn't get enough runs or bowl to a plan and it was a bad day at the office.

"To be honest, we've had more bad days than good this year which isn't like us.

"We have been missing players through injuries and unavailability and when you have a small squad, that isn't ideal, but the 11 players we put out should have been good enough to have beaten Mistley.

"We have had people getting runs with individual performances, but we are not doing enough as a team.

"You need to do it collectively so that if one person gets a hundred, there are two or three others getting fifties and you need to be all pitching in with wickets.

"We're getting individual performances, but it doesn't seem to be collective at the moment.

"When things aren't going for you, you always feel up against it, but we need to stick together as we have a tough couple of games coming up, starting at Worlington on Saturday and then against (leaders) Elmstead the week after.

"We know we can beat anyone in this league, though, and two or three wins in a row can push you right up the table."

Wakelin said he expected a similar side to face Worlington as the one that lost to Mistley.

He added: "I think it will look pretty similar and the boys will have a chance to get us back to winning ways."
