BOTH divisions were closely contested as Colne Valley Golf Club hosted their men’s monthly stableford.

This month’s competition’s prize fund was boosted with a bonus £50 for winners of both division one and division two, as well as a bonus £25 for the runners-up.

It was fitting that both divisions served up a close contest with the winners and runners-up both being decided on countback.

Tom Bowles took the honours in division one as well as overall, edging Paul Davies into second after both players on 38 points.

Division two saw two players end on 33 points, with Roger Warren’s total beating Stuart Collingridge's effort.

The Saturday non-drawn was won by Phil Reeve, on 36 points.

Colne Valley's ladies' Sunday stableford was also a tight affair with just three points separating the top six.

Jan Edwards was victorious, beating Pearl Powell into second place on countback after both finished on 31 points while Celia Larkham was third, on 30.

Colne Valley hosted the first round of the Gordon Finch mixed pairs competition.

The opening round was a greensomes format, with the pair of Lesley Knight and Peter Ragus winning with 41 points.

Karen Charles and Paul Neale were second with 37 points, a point ahead of third-placed Celia Larkham and Steve Taylor.
