THE men’s Lombard Qualifier medal took place at Colne Valley with winner Tom Smith earning the chance to accompany the club's professional in the finals at Thetford later in the year.

James Hamman's nett 70 took third place, while Andrew Carter was second on nett 68 but this year’s winner was Smith.

His gross 75 resulted in a nett 67 for a place in the Lombard competition.

There was also a great win for Valley’s Leslie Wood team over a strong Stoke by Nayland side.

Tony Clarke and Jonathan Bailey got Valley off to the perfect start in the foursomes by taking their match 7&6.

There were also wins for Smith and Jerry Callow and Daniel Wallace and Steve Lusher to give Valley a 3-2 margin.

Valley extended their lead in the singles with early wins for Tony Clarke and Lusher, followed by a half from club captain Gary Beck.

Nayland closed the gap but wins for Bailey, Smith and Callow ensured Valley won 9-6.

Meanwhile, Phil Carr won the seniors' medal with a nett 70, beating Eric Thomson into second place on countback, with Ken Foster third on nett 71.
