THE Hobbs Croft Lake at the Fennes had fished well for a recent Essex Veterans match and it was hoped for a good result for the Braintree Club Sweep.

In the event it fished even better, although unlike the Essex match when no carp were landed, all the top weights included at least one carp.

Mark Banks landed two carp on his light rig with skimmers, before switching to the margins where he added four more to 17lb for a total winning weight of 80-4-0.

Sections (excluding winner) 1 B Walker 48-2-0, 2 M Gould (1 carp & silvers) 16-12-0, 3 K Rolfe (1 carp 17lb & silvers) 36-0-0.

Friday`s Sweep at Notley was a totally different match, as fish were hard to come by.

Billy Walker had the top weight of 9-3-0, consisting of one F1, plus silvers from peg eight, and Pete Thompson included a carp in his 8-2-0 for second.

On Sunday, the annual pairs match between the Kelvedon and Braintree clubs takes place at Layer Marney on numbers two and three.

It would be helpful for the pegger if competitors wishing to fish can book in with the match secretary.

The draw is at 8.30am, with fishing between 10am and 3pm.
