IT was a ‘Super Sunday’ ending to the Essex Invitation Petanque League winter season as three Bocking teams fought it out over five hours for the division one title.

The Spinners hosted the Dyers then the Poachers with all three teams starting the day on 27 points, but the Dyers heading the table on points difference after beating Three Elms 2-1 the day before.

In the opener between the Dyers and Spinners, a long triples game went to the Spinners, 13-12.

In the singles, Richard Tite earned another point for the Spinners with a 13-10 win over Trevor Turner and the deciding pairs saw Dyers' Ian Ruffle and Christina Knights win 13-10 against Paul and David Adams.

The 2-1 defeat ended the Dyers' hopes, while Spinners went into the match with the Poachers needing a single point for the league title.

In another long match, Mark Williams, Pat Brown and Paul Griffin won the triples for the Poachers 13-6.

Williams and Griffin then beat Ruffle and Knights 13-9 to set up a last-game decider and with Brown beating Tite 13-12 the league title went to the Poachers.

The division two title was won by Bocking Boules in their last game to round off an excellent season for the Bocking club.
