BRAINTREE Boxing Club's fighters were in fine form again at the Sudbury ABC show.

Junior boxer Tommy Day competed in his second skills bout against local boxer, Johnny Rooney, while top-rated contender Shane Pavitt was matched against the tenacious Milo Clay, of the newly-formed Thetford Boxing Club.

Day put on an entertaining display in his skills bout and following three rounds of good action, both boxers received a well-deserved round of applause from the appreciative crowd.

In a brilliantly competitive bout, Pavitt then pitted his growing reputation against the extremely fit Clay.

In a terrific first round, both looked to establish an early lead by attempting to out-jab and counter each other.

Pavitt landed some very good shots against the ropes, with Clay proving to be his equal by firing back on the inside as the action escalated, with the two competitors refusing to concede any ground.

The second and third rounds were equally as exciting, with some sensational boxing on display, as the two strong performers caught each other with some thudding punches.

Pavitt, seeking to gain an edge, pushed forward in spurts and landed some solid left hooks to his opponent's head and body, however, Clay continuously fought back, turning the Braintree man on the ropes and sinking some hurtful punches between his guard.

As the fight progressed, the pace increased, with both groups of supporters screaming encouragement to their fighters.

However, in a very close and memorable bout, Pavitt was awarded a close-fought win via split decision.
