BRAINTREE and Bocking Angling Society fished their Crittal and Winterton Cup on the Fennes Ash Grounds lake.
As recent results have not given an indication of the best pegs to use, it was decided to spread out on the right-hand bank.
In the event, the fish were caught from the whole stretch, with several double-figure nets.
Alan Luetchford was on the first peg and had a good day's fishing, with skimmers in the first part of the match and roach towards the end to win the cup with an excellent 23-13-0.
It was close for second place, with Jim Loosley, who had two bigger bream in his weight of 17-13-0, just over a pound clear of third placed Bill Walker, who weighed 16-11-0.
The improvement in the weather helped towards a better result at the Fennes and it did the same at Notley in the Friday match as Jim Hannington landed seven F1s to boost his silver fish net to a winning 14-5-0.
Loosley included three F1s in his second placed 6-12-0.
