BOCKING Poachers stayed top of the Essex Invitation Petanque League despite going down 2-1 at Thorley.

Mark Williams and Paul Griffin secured a point for Poachers with a 13-7 pairs win.

Bocking Dyers have climbed the table after a run of wins and are just one point behind the Poachers after a 3-0 win over Wethersfield Jetts.

Pam, David and Paul Adams won a close triples 13-11 but the pairs and singles proved one-sided games as Dyers won 13-1 and 13-5.

Bocking Boules lost 2-1 to Bocking Spinners.

A long triples went 13-9 to the Boules with Callum Finn in good form, but Spinners then took the pairs 13-3 and the singles 13-1, with Richard Tite proving just too good for Trevor Blows.

On the promenade at Maldon, Billericay Meadows beat Blackwater U3A 2-1.

Brian Butcher gained a point for the home side with a 13-7 singles win.
