STANWAY ROVERS made an explosive start to their Thurlow Nunn League match at Hadleigh United and ended up winning 2-0.

Angelo Harrop’s high-flying side scored both their goals in the first ten minutes.

They went into the game with two new signings on board.

Charlie Lindoe has joined on a month-long loan from Brightlingsea Regent while Tanner Call has switched from premier division side Walsham-le-Willows.

It was Call who gave Rovers a dream start before Craig Hughes made it 2-0.

The result allowed Stanway to close the gap on inactive premier division leaders Mildenhall Town.

Elsewhere, WIVENHOE TOWN were at home to high-flying Great Yarmouth and, after a delayed start, ended up losing 2-1.

A replacement referee was needed and so the match did not get underway until 3.30pm.

It was the visitors who took the lead when one of their players poked home from close range.

It was an advantage they held at the break but Wivenhoe equalised from the penalty spot, after a foul on Matthew Eve.

Keiron Baker stepped up and converted to make it all-square.

Yarmouth went back in front with a headed goal that proved their winner.

FC CLACTON took the lead in their match at in-form Godmanchester Rovers – 5-2 conquerors of Stanway last weekend – but ended up losing 2-1.

Wayne Blackman put the Seasiders ahead but the hosts were level before half-time, at the David Wilson Homes ground.

They then grabbed their winner in the second period.

BRANTHAM ATHLETIC strengthened their position in the table with a 3-2 victory at the Leisure Centre.

Ben Newson, Sean Bartlett and Milo Downey scored the Imps’ goals.

In division one, COGGESHALL TOWN consolidated their position at the top with a 5-3 victory at home to Whitton United.

They were three-up and in total control by half-time.

Nnamdi Nwachuku helped himself to a hat-trick and he was joined on the scoresheet by Darren Mills and Tom Holdstock.

Two Essex sides met at the Rush Green Bowl as HOLLAND FC entertained BRAINTREE TOWN RESERVES.

And it was the visitors who ran out 3-0 winners, largely thanks to two goals from Joe Jones.

Arron Dyson also chipped in with his first goal.

HALSTEAD TOWN lost 5-1 at Woodbridge Town.

Their consolation goal came just before half-time, when Lewis Cunliffe headed home Jordan Hutchings’ cross.

That made it 2-1 but the Humbugs’ task became harder in the second half when James Murray was sent off after receiving his second yellow card in the 70th minute.
