ONLEY Arms duo Trevor and Daniel Blows finished ninth overall as they contested the 64-team Beccles Indoor competition.

They played well in the morning to qualify for the Gold event, but lost out 13-11 to the team that finished fifth and in a very close game, 13-12 to the eventual winners from Cambridge.

The Onley pair lay game shot at both final ends and it needed excellent shooting to secure wins for the opposition.

Meanwhile, the Essex Invitation Petanque League saw Bocking Poachers still heading the table despite having a weekend off, but Three Elms and Thorley defeated Billericay Lakes and Meadows respectively, to gain ground on top spot.

Bocking Dyers were 3-0 winners over Bocking Boules, who did not adapt to the wet conditions, while the other game saw the Wethersfield local derby result in a win for the Jetts over the Hopps.

Kim Speed took the point for the Hopps after the Jetts took the triples and pairs.
