Witham Town manager Adam Flint believes he is starting to see the benefits of sticking with the group of players that he has.

While he does still want to add a bit more experience into his squad if he can, the Town boss feels his young side is maturing in a a way that will stand them in good stead for the future.

Witham have bounced back from an inconsistent late September and October and headed into Wednesday’s Ryman League division north game at Bury Town on the back of three consecutive wins.

They included a 3-2 victory against Thamesmead Town at the Village Glass Stadium on Saturday, when the team’s growing confidence showed as they came back from the early setback of conceding in the fourth minute to take the win.

Flint has talked about the need to make changes to his squad at times this season as he feels it would benefit from a bit more experience, but he thinks his players are showing that they are learning.

“We’re nine points clear (of the relegation places) and that’s important,” he said.

“It’s three wins clear.

“We’ve also got games in hand and we could go higher if we win them.

“That would take us in and around the top end.

“It’s good that we’ve had the three wins in a row as that’s got us going again.

“A lot of people would have panicked but we stuck with what we’ve got.

“Perhaps we do need a little extra experience, but that costs and I think we’re going in the right direction now.

“I think the guys are learning from games as we go through and that will put us in good stead for next year and so on.”

Witham are due to head to Heybridge Swifts for an Essex derby in division north on Saturday and then travel to Dereham Town on Tuesday in the league.

The only negative to come out of Saturday’s game against Thamesmead was the way it ended when a mass melee ensued after the visitors grabbed a late consolation goal.

Two Witham players - Nathan Koranteng and Michael Osei - came on to the pitch after being earlier substituted and were shown red cards for the infringements.

Flint said he expected both to receive bans.

“It was marred by what happened at the end,” he said.

“We tell the boys to stick up for each other but I can’t condone what happened.

“I’m not too sure what did actually happen, but the referee sent off Nathan (Koranteng) and Michael (Osei).

“It’s hard for me to deal with.

“We do ask the players to stick up for themselves, but there are certain ways to do it.”

Osei has been handed a four-match ban, while Koranteng has recieved a two-match suspension.
