BRAINTREE and Bocking Angling Society's Cancer Research Open was fished on the Fennes Ash Grounds and Hill and Black Lakes and produced a string of good weights for the 40 competitors.

Most of the weights included included carp well into double figures, but Ash Grounds produced three of the top four weights.

Leading the way was Neil Hood (Colne AS), who landed seven carp, plus a few bits from peg 24, on the feeder and the margins later in the day to finish with a 91-14-0 total.

Mark Johnson (Lake John) found peg 13 on Hill and Black to be lucky as he also landed seven carp to take second place with 63-4-0.

There was a tie for third spot between Bills Tackle team-mates Jamie Derry and Alan Luetchford on pegs 39 and 58 as both weighed 58-0-0.

Sections (excluding top four): Ash Grounds: 1 M Banks (Bills Tackle) 55-8-0, 2 D Lewis 21-2-0, 3 B Walker (Bills Tackle) 13-14-0, 4 T Harden 21-8-0, 5 D Mason (Bills Tackle) 21-0-0. Hill and Black: =6 P Norfolk/J Smith (both Colne AS) 24-0-0, 7 B Jarvis (Lake John) 33-8-0, 8 M Leave (Colne AS) 42-12-0.

Thanks to the Fennes allowing use of the water at a reduced peg fee, a total of £240 was raised for Cancer Research UK.

Meanwhile, Chris Orrin won the Braintree Club Sweep at Notley in just four casts, as he landed four carp on popped up bread to put him into the lead and he ended the match with eight carp and silvers for a 33-14-0 total.

Second on the day was Bernard Huxter, who weighed 12-5-0 of F1s and silvers.

There are no matches this weekend at Notley.
