IT was a great day for both STANWAY ROVERS and WIVENHOE TOWN, in the Thurlow Nunn League.

Stanway maintained their impressive premier division form and are now unbeaten in seven matches following an excellent 4-1 victory at Saffron Walden Town.

Rovers produced a great team performance to run out comfortable winners, thanks to goals from Billy Hunt, Jamie Shaw, Craig Hughes and Tyler Kemp.

They were three goals to the good by the end of a one-sided first half and now sit second in the table, a point behind leaders Mildenhall.

Wivenhoe, meanwhile, were involved in a tight match at home to Swaffham Town, at the Maple Tree Cars Stadium.

Jack Clampin netted a late goal to secure maximum points for Mo Osman’s men, who are up to fifth in the table.

Bottom club FC CLACTON produced a spirited display but lost 1-0 at Ely City.

The Seasiders conceded a sloppy goal, switching off from a short corner as one of the home players was allowed to power a header into the roof of the net.

BRANTHAM ATHLETIC had started the weekend with a 4-2 victory at Ipswich Wanderers, on Friday night.

Ollie Mann scored a hat-trick and he was joined on the scoresheet by Sean Gunn.

In division one, leaders COGGESHALL TOWN won 2-1 at Woodbridge.

Third-placed HOLLAND FC came unstuck at home to the side directly above them, Stowmarket.

The coastal side crashed to a 4-0 defeat.

Joint-boss Glenn Cowen said: “We got what we deserved against an organised side that worked very hard.

“We didn’t turn up and were well-beaten.

“It was very disappointing and the boys need to show more character, but we will come back stronger.”

HALSTEAD TOWN drew 2-2 at Framlingham Town.

An own goal gave them the lead and then there were three goals in the closing stages.

Framlingham levelled before Jules Simon-Parsons restored the Humbugs’ advantage.

However, the hosts then netted again at the death to secure a dramatic share of the spoils.

BRAINTREE TOWN RESERVES lost 2-0 at Wisbech St Mary.
