MANAGER Adam Flint feels Witham Town’s current form and FA Cup heroics are helping to put the club back on the map.

Last year was a testing one at the Village Glass Stadium, with Witham struggling towards the lower end of the Ryman League division north table throughout the campaign and Flint took over as boss following the departure of Garry Kimble in the latter stages.

Flint managed to keep the side up and they have made a strong start to the new season, with last weekend’s FA Cup first qualifying round triumph at Haringey Borough and Tuesday’s 2-1 league victory against Norwich United taking their winning run to five games.

They will hope to extend that to six when they host Ware in division north on Saturday (kick-off 3pm) and Flint believes their form is turning a few heads.

“It’s putting everyone back in the shop window,” he said.

“The club is back in the shop window, the boys are and also us as managers.

“I’ve never managed at this level and while (assistant manager) James (Robinson) has played at it, he’s never coached at it and it’s good for everyone.

“If we could get through the next round in the FA Cup and into third round qualifying, that would be a massive achievement.

“The club has only ever got as far as the fourth round qualifying and they were Ryman Premier then so what we’ve done is equivalent of what they did.

“So who knows?”

Witham will travel to Beaconsfield SYCOB in the second qualifying round on September 17 but they must first stay focused on league matters against Ware on Saturday.

Flint’s team head into the game full of confidence, though, after a solid display against newly-promoted Norwich United in midweek.

The Town boss added: “It was a great result for us because Norwich were like Bowers (and Pitsea) had been when we played them and they were used to winning.

“They had won the league below the previous two years before coming up last year and we had to kill them off because they were used to winning.

“We knew what they would be like and we just wanted to stand up to them.

“We upped our intensity in the second half and I thought we deserved it.

“It was good and you could see from the way that the boys celebrated that we have the team spirit instilled into them.

“We rotated a few people and the other boys have come in.

“You could see in the game before that they were buzzing to be playing and it shows how good our squad is that we can change it and still win like that.

“It’s exciting for us.

“We have a great squad who are bringing (coach) Curtis Whyte’s training into games and the way that myself and James are, I know we’ve come up from Sunday football, but we don’t lose – we have a winning mentality.

“Sometimes we have to dig in and battle, like we did against Norwich, but all the boys are buying into it.

“It is really exciting.”
