Witham Town manager Adam Flint wants his players to use the confidence gained from their FA Cup success to secure their first win of the season in Ryman League division north.

Progress was secured in the FA Cup thanks to a 3-0 preliminary round win against Eton Manor last weekend to set up a first qualifying round tie at Haringey Borough on September 3 and Flint hopes his team can now carry that into their league form.

Witham have opened their division north campaign with a draw and a defeat and head to Waltham Abbey tomorrow before returning home to face Bowers and Pitsea on Bank Holiday Monday (kick-off 3pm).

Flint said: “I felt we were quite comfortable against Eton Manor and we could have been three or four up by half-time, but the goal we scored just after half-time killed it really.

“They are a good side, though, and we had to do the job so I was pleased to get the win.

“But it’s one that had been coming.

“I thought we played well against Soham and aside from a poor 20 minutes when two mistakes cost us, we did OK against Bury, so I’ve been quite pleased with how we’ve started the season.

“I said to the players after the Cup game that hopefully we can push on now.

“It was important to get that result and it also gives the players extra belief to take into the games against Waltham Abbey and Bowers and Pitsea.

“There are plenty of former Witham players in both sides so we’re looking forward to it.”

Flint said he didn’t have any injury concerns and expected Damien Green to return after being unavailable last weekend.

The Town boss was also hoping to add a new defender to his squad ahead of the game against Waltham Abbey.

He added: “We have quite a bit going forward but we only have four or five across the back line so I’m looking to bring someone in to increase the competition for places.”
