BRAINTREE Bowmen archery ace Sydney Strugnell was crowned champion at the UK Junior Masters at Lilleshall.

On the opening day of the event, she took part in the WA720 at 30 metres.

She started poorly with an end of 41 and things went from bad to worse, as Strugnell finished in third place.

During ranking things improved though and she found herself in the final with Samuel Roberts.

With steely determination, the Braintree archer emerged as the UK under-12 Junior Masters champion, after winning by a point.

In the semi-finals, Strugnell shot against the under-16 winner Alyssia Tromans-Ansell who shoots for Great Britain and ended up as overall third.

Sunday morning saw the round robins taking place and Strugnell experienced nothing like she had shot before.

She lost the first round 6-0, while the second round finished 6-2 and then 6-0, before she beat Roberts 6-2.

Strugnell battled all the archers to reach the final and despite a bad start, she fought her way to a one arrow shoot off at 5-5.

The Braintree competitor lost the shoot-off, to finish second.
