ALEX Lynn believes it is a case of so far, so good heading into the third round of the GP2 Championship this weekend.

But the promising Dunmow racer insists there is still room for improvement, despite his encouraging start.

Lynn has made a solid opening to the series in his DAMS Racing car, following the opening two rounds of the championship and lies third in the standings.

The 22-year-old heads to the Baku city street circuit in Azerbaijan in his DAMS car, hoping to build on his promising start to the season.

He won last month's series opener in Barcelona, before clinching 19 points following two top-five finishes in Monaco.

Lynn told the Times: “It’s going really well so far.

"Barcelona was fantastic, it was great to open the season with a win.

"While I wasn’t on the podium in Monaco I scored some solid points and I’m now just eight points off the championship lead, which isn’t a bad position to be in.

“All in all I’m really pleased; the car feels incredible at the moment which is testament to all the hard work the team has put in.

"We are putting in some really quick times but there are always areas for improvement and that’s what we focus on after every race.

“It’s still very early on in the season but it’s going well.

"I’d say the car set up is better now than it was this time last year.”

Lynn says he is looking forward to competing on the Baku street circuit in his DAMS car this weekend.

He said: “I do like racing on street circuits - I think it’ll suit the car well but having not raced here before we are short on data.

"But every team is in the same position so free practice is going to be crucial.”

Lynn is continuing in his role as development driver with Formula One team Williams Martini Racing this year, as he battles for the GP2 Series title.

There has been some talk surrounding the Essex racing driver's position with Williams and a possible seat for next year.

However, Lynn said: “There is always going to be speculation and it’s very flattering but I’m fully focused on GP2 and bringing home the title this year.

"That is key to carving a successful path in the world of motorsport.”

Following qualifying on Friday afternoon, race one will take place in Baku on Saturday at 9am (British time), with race two taking place on Sunday at 11am.
