BRAINTREE'S Richard Potter and Toby Briant of Dunmow battled it out at the Caterham Graduate Championship at Thruxton.

They were in action in the Sigmas and Supers Championship categories at the event, which was part of the support package to the British Truck Racing Championship in Hampshire.

Qualifying saw Potter (Sigmax) place his Caterham seventh on the grid with a one minute 27.1 second lap, while Briant (Super) with a 1m 27.7s lap started from 17th on the grid put pole in the Super class.

Potter had a slow start for the first of his two races over the weekend and slipped back to ninth off the start.

He was pushing hard but by lap three was down in 11th place, where he finished as the chequered flag came out after the 13-lap race.

As the first of the weekends two Mega and Super races got underway, Briant was soon carving his way up through the field.

By the end of lap one he was up to 14th place and had moved up to eighth by the end of lap three.

Laps five to 14 saw him continually do battle with those around him in the Super and the more powerful Mega class, exchanging places continually between sixth and eighth.

A final push on the last lap saw him regain sixth place, as he took the chequered flag.

Race two of the Sigma and Sigmax saw Potter start from fifth on the grid.

As the lights went green he lost a few places off the start, dropping to ninth.

Lap three saw him regain eighth place, where he remained until the chequered flag.

Briant started from pole in class and 17th on the grid behind the Caterham Megas, in his second race of the weekend.

He had a good start and by the end of lap two was up into 13th place, before lap three saw him move up into 11th.

As the race progressed he had a spell in tenth place and was fighting hard with those around him.

Lap six Briant found himself down in 12th place but by lap nine had fought his way back up to ninth place in a very entertaining race.

The final lap saw Briant take another place and move up into eighth-place overall, where he took the chequered flag and finished first in class.

The duo will be in action again at Brands Hatch on June 25 and 26.
