BRAINTREE Cricket Club captain Will Jackson says it is important that their impressive first win back in division one of the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship isn't an isolated event.

Having had a tough start to life back in the top flight, Braintree finally registered their first win with an eye-catching 195-run demolition of Haverhill.

However, Jackson, who is still recovering from a broken wrist at the moment, said the team can't dwell on that success and they have to build on it now, starting at Halstead on Saturday.

He said: "We can't get carried away with this win and we have to make sure we click in every game.

"We can't just have a big victory and then not perform the next week.

"We always knew the opening period would be tough and if you look at the table, you'll see we've played all of the top four sides in our first four or five matches, but the next few are games against sides we know about.

"We beat Halstead twice two years ago, Mistley are struggling and while Copford were a bogey team for us last year, we do know about them so we feel confident.

"The next few games are important to target and we're looking to continue building."

Braintree's win was built around a knock of 143 by Dean Bass and half-centuries from Chris Leech, Warren Celiz and Quincy Titterton as they made 381 for six before Haverhill were skittled out for 186.

Jackson added: "It was an important win for our confidence and it took the monkey off our back, but the way that we won was important too.

"Dean Bass batted magnificently for his century and Chris Leech, Warren Celiz and Quincy all scored 50s and the way the batsmen all came together was really important as we had struggled for runs a bit.

"The extra net work that the guys had done and playing Sunday league cricket to find form really showed."

Jackson said Braintree were likely to be missing Barry Stephens and Ben Golds for the trip to Halstead, but Dan Chalk would return and Steve Hale was back from a finger injury.
