BRAINTREE and District Athletic Club's Eve Wright took her first ever County gold at the Essex Championships at Chelmsford.

Wright in only her second year competing was the fastest qualifier from the under-15 girls' 100 metres semi-final and in a close final, ducked for the line to take gold in a new personal (PB) best of 12.42 seconds, taking her to fourth in the UK rankings.

She was one of a number of Braintree girls who continued their fine early season form.

They claimed a total of nine county medals, with Kiera Hornsby taking double gold in the unusual combination of the 3,000m and triple jump.

Under-17 Daisy Partridge made it three years on the trot as javelin gold medalist with a great set of throws, the longest going out to 33.70m to top the podium again.

Senior lady Chloe Cockell added a gold in hammer to her tally of medals through the junior ranks and Melissa Gurteen leapt to a new PB of 9.74m for silver in the under-17 triple jump.

Rachel Carter, 12, took a silver medal in the hurdles and Megan Larkins took silver in the discus with 29.31m and 41.92m in the hammer.

The male team members also fared well.

Senior male Charlie Singleton won gold in the long jump and triple jump bronze and Ryan Morgan also took triple jump gold.

First year under-17 Conor Page took his excellent winter cross-country form to the track in claiming bronze in the 3,000m and fellow under-17 Sam Larkins threw the hammer to 27.66m to claim silver.

Veteran Amr Ziko, took the 100m silver medal in a time of 11.93s.
