CHRIS Leonard was victorious as Braintree Sea Angling Club members fished their first evening charter boat match of the year.

It was a trip that was re-arranged from March due to bad weather, but the weather co-operated this time and provided a fine evening out from West Mersea on the boat Enterprise.

Fishing was steady, with thornback rays and dogfish coming aboard throughout.

In a closely-fought contest, it was club secretary Leonard who took the honours with four dogfish, six thornbacks a whiting and a bonus tub gurnard for 101 points.

Second place went to Barrie Senior with 90 points from his catch of five dogfish and six thornbacks.

Colin Crocker came in third with three dogfish and three thornbacks for 80 points.

Some members were in action again on Walton Pier but not as successful as the boat anglers with only two anglers recording fish.

First was Robin Joy, with four school bass for 87 points, and Paul Drake had six pout and one school bass for 76 points.
