Riding high on the back of their successful tour to Wales, Braintree Rugby Club’s under-13s defeated a strong Woodfood side 45-12 to win the Plate Cup final.
An interception from Oli Kempster fed Harry Plester, who broke through a few Woodford tackles to secure the first score under the posts.
Solid effort from the forwards gave the backs the opportunity to spin the ball wide, creating the overlap for Harry Mclagan to go over in the corner.
A sleepy start to the second half allowed Woodford to put a quick converted score on the board, but solid rucking from the forwards and some good hooking from Max Frost allowed Braintree to draw the Woodford defence in, which allowed Kempster to score again.
Late on, some excellent backs play helped to create an overlap for full-back McLagan to score in the final play. Harvey Ellis converted five of the seven tries that Braintree scored to give them a superb 45-12 victory.
