Manager Adam Flint doesn’t want Witham Town to rely on other clubs to do them a favour in the battle to avoid Ryman League division north relegation.

Despite the disappointment of a chastening 4-0 defeat by AFC Hornchurch on Tuesday, Witham’s fate still lays in their own hands and they need another three points from their remaining two games to be mathematically secure.

They can make sure of that at Maldon & Tiptree tomorrow and while they will still be safe if sides below them slip up in their remaining fixtures, Flint wants his team to complete the job on their own terms.

“The aim when I took over as manager was to get us safe and fingers crossed we’ll do that,” he said.

“Other clubs down there have got tough run-ins but we want to get the points ourselves and not rely on others.

“So we’ll go to Maldon and give it our best shot.

"We need one win from the next two.

“I said to the boys that it’s not over, but it felt a bit like it was on Tuesday.

“There are six points for everyone to play for and we need that win to make us safe.

“We don’t want to rely on other sides to be slipping up, but it’s also for ourselves – we want to be finishing with as many points as we can get.

“We want to be pulling away (from the bottom).

“It’s been a decent win ratio since we’ve come in but we want to finish it off now. It looked like we were a team who weren’t playing for anything on Tuesday, but we are playing for something.”

Ryan Charles will be back in for the trip to Maldon after being unavailable in midweek, but Tyler Hayes is likely to be out and Damien Green is out with an ankle injury.
