Braintree and Bocking Swimming Club’s Lee Peterson is set for the European Championships after overcoming an injury problem to British Masters Long Course gold in Sheffield.

Peterson was competing in the 40-44 age group at the British Masters and became a double champion with victories in the 100 metre breaststroke and 50m backstroke.

The Braintree star also gained a silver medal in the 100m backstroke and a bronze in the 200m breaststroke.

His achievements were all the more remarkable as he was coming back from a long-standing groin problem and his success means he has qualified for the European Championships in London next month.

Meanwhile, a long-standing Braintree and Bocking Swimming Club record was sent tumbling by talented youngster Harmony Fry-Oliff.

The eight-and-under 50 metre backstroke best had stood since 1983, but Fry-Oliff put her name in the record books by bettering that time of 43.65 seconds with a swim of 42.96s.
