Flitch United are the Essex Junior Trophy champions after coming out on top in a closely-fought final against Essex Olympian League division two side Ryan FC Under-21s.

The match at Aveley saw Mid-Essex League division one side Flitch take on Ryan, who are from Chingford and it was Flitch who started the brighter.

They carved out some good chances but Ryan held firm until half-time.

Ryan came more into the game in the second half, but Flitch got the breakthrough with 20 minutes to go when Dan O’Brien’s corner was met by Dam Patching and despite the ball coming back off the post, Paul Layzell was on hand to smash it home.

It set up a tense finish, but Flitch held on for the club’s first trophy.

Flitch have the chance to gain more success when they contest the Mid-Essex League Division One Cup final against Pro Athletic at Witham Town later this month.
