Witham Town manager Adam Flint wants his players to “make a name for themselves” when they host Soham Town Rangers tomorrow in a game that he feels could go a long way to ensuring their place in Ryman League division north.

Town’s survival hopes were dealt a blow by a 1-0 defeat at Romford last weekend and Flint admitted that he was disappointed that his team lost a game that he felt was “there to be won”.

However, they have a quick chance to redeem themselves with tomorrow’s home fixture against Soham (kick-off 3pm) being followed by Monday’s postponed game against AFC Hornchurch at the Village Glass Stadium (kick-off 7.45pm).

Flint believes another four points are still needed to safeguard his team’s position so he is hoping to wrap them up sooner rather than later.

“We have three of the four games left at home, which is good and I’m still pretty sure that we will do it,” he said.

“We just have to keep going and pick ourselves up.

“It’s not like we got beaten having played well (at Romford); we just didn’t perform on the day and that’s the first time I can say that since I’ve been at the club. We just need to win on Saturday now.

“We have four games left and, looking at games that other sides have coming up as well, I think we need four points to be safe.

“Six should definitely do it, but I think four will be enough.

“We could lose the first two and win the last two – but the target has to be those four points.

“However, it would settle things down early if we can put points on the board quickly and a win on Saturday will help to do that.

“We have enough quality in our team to do that, but we have to take the game by the scruff of the neck.

“I’ve said to the players that it’s a chance for them to make a name for themselves.

“That has to be the message as Saturday is a big game for us.

“It’s become a six-pointer as they say and I know it’s one we can win.

“I’ve watched Soham and I think they are beatable.”

Flint said he expected to have decisions to make in selecting his team for the game against Soham as Michael Osei, James Moore and Tom Holdstock should all be back available after missing the trip to Romford.

The Town boss was disappointed with the defeat against their Essex rivals as he felt it was a game that they could have got three valuable points from.

He added: “It was disappointing as it was a game that was there to be won and I felt we let ourselves down a bit.

“In the first half, we were by far the better team and we played well.

“We had a goal disallowed that we felt was good when Tom Cocklin put in a free-kick and even though Spencer didn’t get a touch, he was given as offside, then Nathan (Koranteng) also had one ruled out for offside. It was all us to be honest and I thought there was only going to be one winner.

“But we let ourselves down in the second half and they scored with a scrappy goal.

“It was probably the kick that we needed and we now need to win on Saturday.”
