Dunmow Rhodes were delighted with the support they received in hosting the club’s first-ever girls’ football tournament at the Dunmow Recreation Ground.

The five-a-side event was run in conjunction with the Essex FA and the Essex County Girls League, with three teams from Dunmow Rhodes joined by sides from clubs all over Essex, including Chelmsford City, Island Girls, Hutton, Writtle Minors and Colchester Town.

The tournament was played in fantastic spirit, with all players receiving medals at the end.

For the hosts, this was the first time many of the girls from Rhodes had played in such a big tournament and they were a credit to the club, putting in some excellent performances.

Michael Richardson, Rhodes head coach and head of MRFA Football Academy was in attendance and was very impressed with the high standard of football being played by all.

Dunmow Rhodes head of Girls football Sarah Smith was the chief organiser of the event with support from Dave Wildgoose and must take great credit for how well it all went. Smith is currently taking her FA Level Two coaching badges and has been the driving force behind the development of girls only football at Rhodes with well over 30 girls now with the club.

Any girls who are interested in playing can contact Smith on 07793 325930.
