There was a four-way tie for top spot in Saturday’s men’s stableford at Braintree Golf Club, with 12-handicapper Dermot Burns emerging victorious on counback.

All four scored 35 points, with Graham Milligan (26) taking second ahead of Ivan Patching (14) and Richard Moffat (13).

The Sunday stableford produced slightly better scoring, with Gary Jones (9) winning with 38 points, one better than Steven Hockley (10).

Four players finished with 34 points, with third place going to Richard Mitchell (8) on countback from James Bussell (6), Vincent Clayden (10) and Alan Simmons (9).

The seniors’ Spring Meeting saw 36 players compete for the Spring Shield, which had been generously donated by Gordon Hewitt.

Under the fourball betterball format, victory went to John Gisby and Mike Saffill with 46 points, while Paul Vale and Mike Collard finished second with 44 and Peter Eveling and Mike Scade were third with 41.

There was a countback for the ladies’ Midweek Medal, with Jennifer Day (24) edging out Sue Scott (20), after both had returned 74, while Janet Jenkyn (28) was third on 76.
