Heybridge Swifts hit a late goal to secure their place in the Essex Senior Cup semi-final.

Jody Brown’s Swifts defeated visiting Aveley 3-2 in the quarter-final at Scraley Road thanks to an injury-time strike from Jack Barham on Tuesday night.

The home side took the lead when Lamar Reynolds' free-kick was headed into the top corner by Jack Fowler on 14 minutes.

Aveley were reduced to ten men on 34 minutes when keeper James Marrable was sent off for bringing down Swifts’ Barham.

However, the Aveley keeper also had to be carried off the pitch due to injury and Heige Orome took over between the sticks.

Three minutes into first half injury-time Barham made it 2-0 with a half-volley from 15 yards.

After the break, Swifts were also reduced to ten men when Lee Townrow was sent off for an off the ball incident on 49 minutes.

Aveley got back into the game on 61 minutes with a powerful shot from Liam Nash.

The Millers then equalised on 73 minutes when a right wing cross wasn't cleared and Arian Retkoceri fired home from close range.

But Swifts sealed the win three minutes into injury-time when Lamar Reynolds’ cross was headed in by Barham.

Maldon and Tiptree entertained Stanway Rovers in round one of the Tolleshunt D’arcy Cup.

The Jammers secured their place in the next round with a 4-2 win.

Rhys Henry opened the scoring on 12 minutes with a tap in from Adam Mills shot to give the home side the lead.

Nnamdi Nwachuku made it 2-0 on 35 minutes after being put in by Henry.

A minute later it was 3-0 when Darren Mills fired in with a fierce shot.

Rovers hit back with a goal right on the stroke of half-time with a free-kick from the edge of the box to make the score 3-1.

After the break, Stanway reduced the deficit from the penalty spot making it 3-2 on 54 minutes.

But Darren Mills made it 4-2 for the Jammers with a header on 81 minutes.

Witham Town lost out to Bury Town 1-0 in their Ryman League division north encounter.

Josh Mayhew gave Bury the lead on 73 minutes from close range.

Witham were then reduced to ten men on 90 minutes when Thomas Holdstock was sent off.
