There may be unfinished business for Alex Lynn as the GP2 Series returns with a second visit to Bahrain of the year.

The 22-year-old from Dunmow near Braintree was well-placed to claim a podium finish after qualifing third at the Sakhir circuit when the series visited in the opening weekend of the season in April, but clipping Alexander Rossi’s Racing Engineering car scuppered his hopes.

Losing the end plate of his front wing meant Lynn lost downforce and ruined his tyres and he was only able to pilot his DAMS Racing car to a lowly 19th-place finish at the end of the feature race.

He also failed to record any points in the following day’s sprint event, so will be hoping for better fortune on his return to the Middle East track.

Lynn said: “I’m quite excited to be going back to Bahrain for this coming weekend’s penultimate round of the GP2 Series.

“It’s where we kicked off the 2015 season so, as my engineer at DAMS called it, it’s a bit of an end-of-year exam.

“We can see what lessons we’ve learned, and come back and try and do well.”

“If we rewind to the first round, I had a chance to win that.

“My speed was very good but youthful exuberance put paid to a decent result.

“We’ve done our analysis and although our approach won’t be too different to earlier in the year, we have a bit more maturity to take in.”

Lynn heads into the penultimate round of the year with his sights still set on claiming the position as the Series’ top rookie driver.

Taking just four points from the previous round at Sochi in Russia means he will head to Bahrain sitting fifth – level on points with sixth-placed Mitch Evans – and 31 points behind fourth-placed Sergei Sirotkin, who is the current top-placed rookie.

Qualifying at Sakhir is due to take place at 11.20am (British time) today, with the feature race starting at 12.30pm tomorrow and the sprint race at 7.45am on Saturday.

On Sunday, Lynn will be racing at Sakhir with the Toyota team in the World Endurance Championship round being held in Bahrain.
