James Hedger enjoyed a highly successful weekend at Braintree Golf Club with two superb victories that saw his handicap cut to one.

Hedger’s two-day triumph began when he won the Saturday Stableford with 39 points off a two handicap, finishing four strokes ahead of Mike Snell (18) and Tom McGee (4).

Snell took second spot on countback.

Then when the club staged its Finals Day on Sunday, Hedger again came to the fore when he and partner Ashley Tate won the John Bone Foursomes with a two-hole victory over James Turley and Andrew Marsay.

The final of the Tilson Trophy saw Tony Bannister lift the title for the third time in four years by beating Terry Tennens three and two.

In the final of the Staples Pairs, a betterball competition, Josh Fullalove and Lee Beagrie overcame Angus Neilson and Alastair Stalker seven and six.

In the Over-18 Handicap Final, Colin Rose (24) beat John Still (20).
