Sam Habergham believes that having their players getting selected for England C duty can be a big boost for Braintree Town as a club.

The Iron full-back has linked up for a training camp this week with Paul Fairclough’s national under-23 team, which is made up of players operating outside the Football League.

It is the 23-year-old former Norwich trainee’s first taste of international involvement and he has been joined by Braintree team-mate Alex Woodyard, who won two England C caps while with Concord Rangers last year.

The Iron duo were in the side that lost 1-0 to Guiseley in the Vanarama National League last weekend and will return to club duty on Saturday when they head to Eastleigh.

However, their attentions have been on England matters this week, with Fairclough looking to build his squad towards the start of their 2015-17 International Challenge Trophy campaign and Habergham believes their involvement reflects well on Braintree.

“It’s always nice when you get some recognition,” he said.

“It will be great to work alongside other players from the league and hopefully I can get selected when matches come around.

“I believe there are championship games coming up and this training camp will lead up to that.

“You just want to perform as well as you can and put yourself in front of as many people as you can.

“You never know where it may take you and it’s always good for the club because it can push the club forward.

“Having players who are involved with England C can only be a good thing because it means you must be doing well as a club.

“I think there have been six Braintree players involved now, which can only be good for a small club in this league.”
