There was little to separate the top four pairs in Colne Valley Golf Club’s Gordon Finch competition, following the third and final round of the event.

After the three summer rounds, the overall winners were round one winners Alessandra and Jerry Callow who boasted the best two-round scores.

Last year’s champions Sue and Geoff Earnshaw were runners-up and there was little to separate the top four pairs.

Playing four ball better ball in the final round, five pairs came within two points of round three winners Sue Drysdale and Chris Amor, who posted 42 points.

Mavis Burke and Alan Beattie were runners-up on countback, with 41 points.

Amor narrowly avoided an expensive hole in one on the 17th but took the wine for nearest the pin instead, with a two for four points helping their cause.

Colne Valley were victorious in their annual fixture with the Essex and hosts Gosfield Lake for the first time in a decade.

Colne Valley team: Paul Davies, Russ Bell, Tom Smith, Jerry Callow, Tim Streamer, Paul Neale, Don Cutmore, Henry Dow, Glenn Sibley, Jack Perfect-Brown, Trevor Jarman and Pete Blowers.
