Witham Town will travel as underdogs to King’s Lynn Town in the second qualifying round of the FA Cup today, according to manager Garry Kimble.

The Linnets play at a level above Witham in the non-league football pyramid – the Evo-Stick Southern League premier division – but Kimble believes his team can come back to Essex with a win.

Witham have already beaten two sides – Thurrock and Brightlingsea Regent – from the same Ryman League division north level as they play at in the competition this year.

However, Kimble sees no reason why his players should be worried about facing higher-placed opposition on Saturday, despite only having won once in the league so far this season.

“It’s another good game for us,” he said.

“It takes some of the pressure off us from the league as we go there as underdogs.

“However, King’s Lynn aren’t punching above their weight in their league and we see it as a winnable game.

“What we have to do, though, is defend better than we have been.

“We’re not worried about them, but we have to concentrate on what we are doing.

“I’d rather have it at home as you would with any cup tie.

“They get a big support for their home games and there’ll probably be about 500 there on the day.”
