Braintree Boxing Club is celebrating its latest champion following a stirring performance from undefeated boxer Danny Mitchell, who claimed a county title by winning the senior under-60kg Novice Essex Championship.

Mitchell was matched against another undefeated boxer, Aaron McFarlane from the renowned Canvey Island Boxing Club, and put on a superb display of pugilism to claim his first championship title.

Round one started with both boxers attempting to take the centre of the ring, with McFarlane trying to use his long reach to keep Mitchell at bay.

However, Mitchell boxed very intelligently and consistently slipped inside the long jab of his opponent to land hard punches to both his body and head, including a thudding left hook that sent McFarlane backwards into the ropes.

At the end of the first round, Mitchell was in control and leading on points.

The second round was fought at a ferocious pace as both boxers tried to gain the upper hand.

Mitchell was out-working McFarlane and using his superior footwork to land the heavier blows but had to maintain his composure after taking a solid right hand when both boxers were trading punches.

Towards the end of the round, Mitchell landed a great counter right-hand that knocked his opponent down and leave him leading the fight as the bell sounded.

The final stanza was an exciting affair with the Canvey Island boxer showing great determination by trying to force the action and put Mitchell on to the back foot.

Mitchell would not be denied, though, and once again made McFarlane retreat before landing another solid straight right hand and left hook.

With the crowd applauding a brilliant and fast-paced contest, the final bell rang with Mitchell capturing his first championship as he took the Essex title on a points decision.
