Legendary Arsenal goalkeeper Bob Wilson was at Stisted last week as Braintree Golf Club was the venue for a Willow Foundation Golf Day.

The Foundation was established in 1999 by Wilson after his daughter Anna was diagnosed with cancer and passed away just before her 32nd birthday.

The Braintree event proved a big success with around 80 golfers participating.

Despite having a bad back, Wilson played superbly and his team of club captain Gary Mills, lady captain Toni Brockwell and Wilson’s wife Megs won with 92 points, the best two scores counting.

There was a separate ladies’ competition which was won by Christine White while, along with a raffle and auction, the day raised a considerable amount of money for the Foundation.

Wales, captained by Brian Day, won the annual International on Saturday with 209 points, beating England, Scotland and Ireland.

The leading man was Geoff Reeves while the best lady was Jenny Day.

Last week’s ladies medal competition was won by Anne Gisby with a nett 70, ahead of Gillian Barke with a nett 73.
