A countback was required to decide the winner of Braintree Golf Club’s Veterans Cup after three players returned 41 points but it was Andy Bullock who topped the list.

The 13-handicapper won this competition for members aged over 55, ahead of Bob Scott (10), with David Critchley taking third place (19).

There was some equally fine scoring in two medal competitions.

In the Saturday event, Tom McGee (5) produced a nett 61 after going round in a four under par gross 66.

After having his handicap cut to four, he might have repeated the performance the following day, but after taking nine shots on the first hole he finished with a nett 73 and will now be playing off three. The Sunday winner was Martin Hawes (2) with a nett 65 that kept him three shots clear of Ian Davis (14) in third with a nett 68.

There was a large turnout for the seniors’ Howard Robinson event.

Steve Allen emerged victorious with 41 points, one ahead of Terry Pinhey, with Andy Bardell and Mike Collard both returning 39. A total of 41 points also saw Diana Hughes win the ladies’ Holiday Cup, followed by Caroline Fields with 40 and Candice Jones on 39.
