Jake Wakelin says his Witham Cricket Club players are just enjoying themselves as they continue to press the leaders in the top flight of the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship.

Witham reinforced their position in the top three of the division one table with a 59-run victory that saw them do the home and away double over Coggeshall and brought an end to the Harefield side’s nine-game winning run.

It kept Witham just 12 points behind leaders Sudbury with games against a trio of sides below them coming up in the next three weeks - starting with a home game against Hadleigh today - but captain Wakelin said there will be no complacency.

He said: “We still have to play Sudbury and (second-placed) Mildenhall and I don’t think you should write Coggeshall off, so there is a lot of cricket to be played.

“We are just enjoying it still and we’re looking strong for this weekend against Hadleigh as well.

“There are three games coming up that if you look at the league standings then people would expect us to win them, but there are no gimmes in this league.

“Hadleigh have done well and we lost at Frinton in a game that I felt we should have won so it all shows that anyone can beat anyone.

“However, we are confident and will look to keep batting aggresively and bowling tightly.”
